Hey everyone, I’m currently building a lean alternative to the big commission platforms (Spiff, etc.), and I’m trying strictly to avoid 'feature bloat.' For those of you managing commissions: What is the ONE feature in your current tool that you absolutely hate (or never use)? I want to make sure I don't waste time building things nobody actually wants. Appreciate the roast!
This is a great question to ask early. Honestly, most people don’t hate a specific feature, they hate not knowing why a number changed. Audit trails, versioned logic, or even plain English explanations matter more than extra controls. Less “power,” more confidence.
That line 'Less power, more confidence' is honestly the best insight I've heard all week. We’re actually betting the whole product on exactly that (building an immutable 'Audit Log' and 'Plain English' summaries instead of complex formula builders). Quick Q: When you say 'Versioned Logic' are you looking for something like 'Git for Commissions' (where you can roll back rule changes), or just a simple log of who changed the deal value?
Great direction tbh, that bet makes a lot of sense. When I said versioned logic, I was thinking closer to confidence first, not power first. Not full “Git for commissions” with branches and diffs, that quickly becomes scary for non technical ops teams.
More like: -A human-readable history of rule changes -Clear before / after impact (“this change increased payouts by X%”) -The ability to roll back without needing to understand the underlying math So less “who changed what,” and more “what changed, why it changed, and whether it helped.” If a sales manager can explain payouts to a rep without opening the tool, you’ve probably nailed it. Happy to jam more if useful, I’ve seen trust break fast when money logic feels opaque. 😅
I am curious to see the beta when you have it.
Oluwanifemi A. This is brilliant. That distinction between 'Confidence' vs 'Power' is exactly what we were missing. We were literally debating a technical 'Diff View' and you just saved us from building something scary/useless. Sending you a DM. would love to take you up on that offer to jam. That 'Before/After Impact' concept is a game changer.
