Overcoming Doubts in Building Your Personal Brand Online

Hey everyone! It's me and my social media dilemma again! One of my goals this year is to dedicate more time and effort building my personal brand. Not to gain clients or whatever but, you know, just so I exist online and build my own little community. Bonus points if I can get clients from it. But whenever I think about the idea of posting something, I go: "who would see this, anyway?" "what's the point of posting?" "I don't think anybody cares so..." "if no one will see this and no one cares, why bother posting?" "why am I doing this again?" And many more... but you know where I'm going, right? So, to all the creators out there and people successful in building a personal brand or don't really struggle posting online, how do you do it? How do you combat these thoughts? Thaaanks!

Relate! I get stuck in thoughts such as "I don't really have something unique to say". Haven't cracked the code yet. Here’s an approach I’m experimenting with - and you could try it too: I upload posts I like into ChatGPT and ask it, based on the tonality of the post, to pose questions to me that can spark inspiration for new content. In that way I let chatgpt ask the questions and I try to come up with the answers. Might work not sure yet 😅

Hey Tammy, I feel the same way, and like Nicolas H. I haven't quite cracked the nut on this either (cool GPT idea btw, I'll give it a shot). Simply because my personal experience was from presenting on behalf of a company, not individually. Although that did build a small following for me in that industry (games/esports). I do believe putting yourself out there like you have done with this post is a step in the right direction. You'd be pleasantly surprised how your unique experience will likely resonate with many people. Just as both Nicolas and I relate to what you shared. I have had experience working with content creators who have a personal brand. Here are a few things they shared with me;
1.
Find & identify specific themes you find interesting and enjoy. If you find yourself often drawing attention from people around specific topics (networking, what you mentor juniors, things you've learned from leaders/mentors, etc.), that's a clue. If you found it valuable, it likely is valuable to someone else.
2.
Be clear on your 'why' - What are you passionate about? What do you want to share? There are times when it gets hard, if your why is clear, it will guide you through.
3.
"Just post" - The first step is to just post something and experiment. Many creators struggled for months before something "clicked".

A big part of what I do is helping creators and experts get through exactly this kind of internal resistance. It’s not really about “what’s the point of posting?” It’s about building a system that gives your content purpose, structure, and momentum, so you're not relying on motivation or validation to keep going. One mindset shift that helps: Instead of asking “What if no one sees this?”, ask “What if the right person does?” You don’t need everyone to care, just the right people. And one post can change everything. Also: Think of social media like TV. The people who succeed online are the ones who create a consistent “show,” something audiences can recognize, relate to, and remember. People love putting people into boxes, that’s how our brains work. So your goal isn’t to “post randomly,” it’s to become a character in the minds of your audience. To make them go: “Oh yeah, Tammy — she’s the one who talks about ___.” Once that identity clicks, posting gets easier, and your audience starts to grow more naturally.
