Best Strategies for Accurate Salesforce TAM Definition and Technographics Data Usage
it sounds like you’re defining TAM as “all companies that use Salesforce,” since that’s who you can sell to. On the data side — I wouldn’t fully trust Apollo alone either. Technographics data is always a bit messy. No provider is 100% accurate. A few things that have worked better for us: BuiltWith or Datanyze for tech stack detection. Not perfect, but usually decent directional data. ZoomInfo if budget allows — their technographics are generally stronger. Job postings are actually a very good signal. If a company is hiring for Salesforce Admins/Devs, they’re almost certainly using it. Looking at companies using specific AppExchange apps can also help narrow things down. What’s worked best for us is combining 2–3 signals instead of relying on one source. For cost control, I’d narrow using job postings or technographic filters first, then enrich that smaller list in Clay. Technographics data will never be clean, but layering signals helps a lot.
