How should product marketers measure brand visibility in AI search? We’ve been exploring how brands show up across AI platforms like ChatGPT and Perplexity, and how this is changing the way buyers discover and evaluate products. As AI-driven discovery grows, traditional SEO metrics may no longer tell the whole story. For product marketers, what metrics do you think matter most when measuring AI visibility:- share of voice, brand mentions, citations, sentiment, or something else? Curious to hear how others are approaching this and whether AI visibility is becoming part of your marketing measurement framework.
I’d start with three things:
Citation share: how often your brand is the source cited across the 15-20 questions your buyers actually ask.
Mention context: are you recommended, merely listed, or compared unfavorably?
Source mapping: which third-party sources (review sites, Reddit, etc.) feed those answers.
Share of voice and sentiment are useful, but they’re lagging indicators. Source mapping is the one most teams skip, and it’s where you can actually influence the outcome. Curious, are you tracking this per prompt or at the brand level?
I think tracking at the prompt level is important because it helps us understand the context behind brand mentions and citations, while the brand-level view helps identify broader trends. At ZiplyAI, we look at both to help brands understand where they stand in AI-generated answers and identify opportunities to improve their AI visibility.
Good question. From what we've seen, share of voice and mention count matter most early since most brands start at zero. Citations help explain why you show up but don't track trend well, and sentiment only becomes useful once volume is real. Worth tracking weekly, not monthly.
