Out of curiosity, how many people here can actually design and implement a complete GTM system end-to-end? I'd love to know how common this skill is in the community.
honestly fewer than would admit it. most people own a slice of the GTM motion really well but designing the full system — from ICP definition through to closed-won attribution — requires a level of cross-functional thinking that's rare. the ones who can usually got there by breaking things at a startup, not by studying frameworks
completely agree with Ozan D. here. that's exactly the capability we're trying to develop through our GTM Engineering cohort as well. Participants build their own ICP matrix, map their sales processes and then learn to automate and embed AI within that system.
Ozan D. If you were hiring today, how would you test whether someone truly understands end-to-end GTM systems versus just knowing the tools?
Have them talk through the lead to sale cycle - then ask a few questions at a field level (can they understand what a rep is actually facing; handoffs; marketing hook vs sales value & closing messaging) and exec level (when do you turn the dial on volume/quality; discussion on messaging’s alignment to goals ie ACV, volume, channels). There is no golden bullet question - if you are at superficial question level, you will get superficial answers - and a lot of people can blag at the 101 level.
I can design and implement an end-to-end GTM system, from strategy and process design through data, tooling, AI workflows, guardrails, and team adoption. If you’re mapping where your own AI GTM motion is getting stuck, I built a short AI GTM Maturity Snapshot to help identify the constraint.
Himanshu N. the test I'd use: give them a broken funnel and ask them to diagnose it. the people who truly understand end-to-end start asking about conversion rates between stages and handoff logic, not which tools you're running. tool knowledge is table stakes — the real signal is whether they can trace a lead from first touch to closed-won and explain where it's leaking
