Hey all! Does anyone have any tips and tricks on subject lines in cold emails in 2026? Thinking simple best practices and tricks that have worked for click through rates. Note: not looking for services/agencies. Just tips and tricks.
Don't say “quick question” or “person’s name?”
I've actually seen on LinkedIn that "quick question" is making a comeback but I was wary - and did you mean don't mention their name Pat H.?
It should go away forever. It's a sign you're pitching. I get many emails that are subject line “Pat?”
I spam flag them
same, my inbox is filled with quick question keep it genuine, if you go through all the emails you have read from peers, notice their subject lines and copy those directly. thats what works, personalize if need be. but dont try to sell or hook or anything like that
The subject line is just a summary of the contents of your email. The email needs to be timely and relevant, with a single clear call to action. Every single subject line has to be unique.
I disagree. A subject line is a hook. A first impression
The email itself has to be a hook, that ends up getting transferred into the subject.
Email subject lines:
Just spoke and they want more info via email = Just spoke!
Someone else referred or mentioned X could be the best person to speak with = Referred by Y // 2026 Alignment
If cold, first email, make it sort of personal. Use their slogan in the first sentence or subject line or reference something they're driving at the moment as a company/organization: “Excited to see the growth in Brazil” or “there's lots of buzz around your…”
Something fun and different
biggest thing that's worked for us — subject lines that reference something the recipient actually did recently. not 'congrats on the funding round' (everyone sends that) but something specific like a blog post they wrote or a talk they gave. the more it proves you actually looked at their work, the higher the open rate.
Thank you all so much - this thread has been so helpful
Write as if you were reaching out to a colleague within your company in which you have a highly professional relationship with. Something like "Re: Ideal Group for Lead Gen" (yes using Re: is a cheap way to get attention but still works for us today).
I once tried “coffee and cake on me” 3 out of 5 people replied and I got 3 meetings that day
More for spam filters or no replies? I get decent replies for Dir to C-Level still. Agree younger staff call it out though.
