Nothing kills trust faster than fake social proof.
Logos of “customers” who don’t exist or never paid.
Testimonials from friends or fake people.
Inflated user counts and metrics
Instead of faking it, make real proof easier to find:
Highlight small but genuine wins (one user cutting churn by 10% > fake enterprise logo)
Turn every customer story into a 30s clip or 3-line quote.
👉 No customers yet? Use your own story as the first case study. show how you solved the problem for yourself. People can smell fake from a mile away. Real proof (no matter how small) scales way better.
I personally like "no bullshit." So if people are upfront and honest with what they can provide and convince they have a long timeline to operate on, they will net customers. That is, they are small/new to market so they undercut the competition, and they can show that migration will be worth it with a solid outlook and proof of "staying power." So the customer doesnt have to have a conversion headache in another year or two.
"we're small, but we're making waves. You don't get a phone support when you have problems, you get a founder at this point. And! We will jump in and kill alligators for you. Join us.!"
