Happy Monday! A former employee reached out to me. She's interviewing for a Customer Success position at large ERP and one of the things she'll be doing is leading the team through a transition from on-prem to cloud. If you have led a team through this type of transition, what is your advice?
There are a lot of considerations for this sort of transition… I would need to understand more on the type of product, the criticality of it (i.e. can there be downtime or does it have to have near 100% uptime), how much data is involved, and of course, how much experience the engineering team has with such a transition (Success or failure will largely depend on engineering)
Is she an SME and/or expected to lead the technical implementation? If not she should be the one coordinating and keeping people accountable to dates, actively soliciting and managing feedback across teams, and making sure expectations are communicated and adjusted when needed. We occasionally do projects like this at Integ when our customers really need it and the big thing to remember is that they have likely never done anything like this before and need someone to hold their hand to make them less nervous/unsure.
Heather S. I’d encourage her to get as much context as humanly possible on what I outlined, it will be very important to understand those items
I agree. Thanks again
