Hey GTM, when you look at your website, how do you tell if it’s giving buyers the clarity they need to take the next step? Do you track this with any specific measures or metrics?
Sudarshan Y. Clarity isn't a feeling; it's a number. You can tell if your website has clarity by measuring its conversion rate. If your website isn't converting, it doesn't matter how pretty it is, it ain't working! You can get all the data you need from Google Analytics, TGM and Seach Console
Thanks all, super helpful points. 🙏 I see conversion rate as the outcome. I’m trying to understand whether the site itself is setting buyers up to reach that outcome. Do these leading indicators resonate with you?
Time-to-clarity on first screen (how many seconds until the value is clear)
% who understand before scrolling
Findability of pricing/docs (reachable in ≤2 clicks)
Coverage of FAQs/objections (pricing, integrations, security, ROI)
Heatmaps/session replays are great, but I find them hard to tie to the folks who don’t click “Book a meeting.” Have you found practical ways to measure the above without tons of manual review.
What’s the main goal of your website for buyers? From my content + Shopify experience, I usually track conversion rate as the headline metric, but I also look at click paths, engagement with key content, and friction points. Together, it gives a clear picture of whether buyers can take the next step.
PostHog is the gold standard tool for this!
I agree with Sai M.. heatmaps and session replays reveal more than raw CTRs. I also look at scroll depth. If people drop before two scrolls, it’s usually a messaging or clarity issue, not just design.
The best way to identify this is by tracking how many unique visitors you’re getting and how many are clicking on the CTA. Compare these numbers to industry benchmarks and ask yourself: is all this traffic really from my ICP? If yes, what’s the actual conversion rate? Is it close or nearby industry standards? (To track this, you can set up a simple Google Analytics installation.) Now, if you notice a problem, here’s how you can fix it: • Install heatmaps and session recordings to see how users interact with your site. Watch each step of user behavior to determine what’s happening • Message and Ask the users who clicked the CTA why they clicked. • Double down on what’s working based on their feedback.
